As we mentioned a few weeks ago, the first U.S. bound production R8 5.2FSi V10 was going up on the auction block this past weekend in a city known for high-end luxury whips: Boca Raton, Florida.
And the price, you might ask, for the privilege to own the first American R8 V10 ? A cool $500,000 is what it rang up for at the Boca Raton Concours d’Elegance - whose proceeds go to support various charitable organizations throughout Boca Raton. While $500,000 is a lot and impressive that someone would pay this much for a car that will retail around $150,000 to $180,000, what’s more surprising is that the Audi R8 V10 beat out the first U.S. bound Ferrari California by an incredible $150,000 when the Ferrari sold for only $350,000. Certainly a feather in Audi’s cap as proof that they’re ambitions about moving up in the world of sports/luxury cars should be taken very seriously.
Those of you that can wait or don’t want to pay that much of a mark-up on the new R8 should expect to see it stateside late this year though dealers are now taking orders.
