Earlier this year, we posted a listing of changes Audi is making to its 2010 line-up. Now there is good news for those holding out for some of Audi’s 2010 models to pick up their cars, pricing has been announced for the 2010 A4, A5 and Q5. This is especially significant for the A4 and A5 line-ups as, for 2010, Audi has completely dropped the 265HP 3.2L V6 from its cars. This was mostly due to sales of the popular 2.0T 5 cylinder far outweighing the heavier V6 in both the A4 and A5.

Hit the jump for full pricing of the 2010 A4, A5, and Q5 plus some of the changes to each model.

However, this is good news, as the potent 2.0T engine has made the A5 models more affordable and closer to the starting price of the A4 sedan with a price decrease of over $4,000. The pricing breakdown for the A4 and A5 models are starting as follows:

Premium A4/A5: $32,350/$36,000

Premium Plus A4/A5: $35,850/$39,500

Prestige: A4/A5: $41,050/$44,300

(pricing shown for models with quattro and manual transmission)

As you may realize, the pricing structure and lack of a V6 A4 model is now leaving significant room for the S4 to come in as a higher displacement V6 above the Prestige model A4 and room for the S5 to come in priced a few thousand above a fully loaded A5 2.0T with the Prestige package. Thus, the pricing structure of Audi’s A/S cars more closely mirrors the pricing structure of Audi’s competition. These changes in pricing also come with some small package changes with the 6-speed manual transmission being available for the A5 2.0T, the A4 gets new optional wheels with the S-line package and LEDs and the Bang and Oulfsen systems comes with the Premium Plus package.

In terms of the Q5, the pricing comes out as:

Premium: $37,350
Premium Plus: $41,400
Prestige: $48,850

(Priced with quattro and tiptronic transmission)

The Q5 changes for 2010 with revised 20 inch rims for the S-line package, Bang and Oulfsen’s system is now available on the Premium Plus package and 2 new inlays and the Dark Beige exterior has been dropped from the paint scheme. These changes will help to support the already strong growth in sales for the Q5 as Audi continues its path of growing sales and continued taking of the market share of the luxury car market in the U.S.

Check out Audi’s full press release below for full information on Audi’s pricing press release for the A4, A5, and Q5.

HERNDON, Va., Jul 17, 2009 - Audi today released pricing for the 2010 model-year Audi A4 sedan, Audi A5 coupe and Audi Q5 crossover vehicle, which are headed to authorized Audi dealerships to meet strong consumer demand.

Audi moved sales of the 2010 models ahead a few weeks following a successful sell-down of the previous model-year inventory. Sales of the 2009 Audi A5, for example, finished June 168% ahead of the sales pace set a year earlier. Demand for the all-new Audi Q5 has been exceptionally strong since its February introduction to consumers with sales hitting 5,701 so far this year.

Each of these models in the heart of the Audi lineup receives upgrades for the 2010 model year. A4 and A5 now feature LED tail lights in Premium Plus and Prestige lines, A5 gets the same fuel efficient 2.0 TFSI direct-injection engine offered in the A4, and Q5 Prestige offers an optional Luxury Package.

“Despite the economic headwinds that have affected all premium automotive brands this year, we see no signs of interest lagging in these three models,” said Johan de Nysschen, President, Audi of America. “That’s good news heading into the 2010 model year for our market share in the U.S., which has been hitting record levels. That’s good news for our dealers, who are enjoying the enthusiasm the Audi brand is generating. We need to release these new models early because of our proactive management of unsold inventories and because Audi continues to bring new models to the freshest lineup in the luxury sector. Both trends will continue in the months ahead.”

Audi expects to release 2010 pricing and model year changes for the remainder of its lineup within the next few weeks.

In what could only be a photo shoot for official photos for the release, the A5 Sportback was caught completely undisguised, sporting it’s new fastback design. The A5 Sportback, which, ironically, has similar styling cues along the body from 4-door A4 model with strong design cues for the front and rear pulled from the A5. Expect about 480 liters of space for in the trunk/gate area, a good substitute for those who need more space than a sedan without going with an SUV or a longer Avant wagon.

The A5 Sportback, due out later this fall, will unfortunately not make it to the United States as Audi is still unsure of how the Sportback would perform in this market and if it would be worth the cost to federalize the cars. Ironically, though, these pictures were snapped in California, despite not going on sale here. However, the rest of the world can expect the Sportback to carry the same engines as the A4/5 line-up with the 2.0TFSi 4-cylinder, 3.2L FSi V6, as well as the diesel 2.0 TDI and 3.0 TDI.

Expect the A5 to go on sale this fall and likely battle head to head with BMW’s up coming 5 Series GT, also due out sometime in the next few months.

Audi is currently venturing into new territories with new crossover models. Audi already revealed the A7 crossover of sorts which was a long-wheel base sedan with a hatchback, ala a a mix between and Avant and A8. Just as they did with the A6 and A4-based Allroads, Audi then created a concept for a smaller A5-based crossover vehicle with 4 passenger doors and a hatchback at the rear for near-Avant sized cargo space.

It’s thought that the A5 Sportback is Audi’s own answer to BMW’s recently debuted concept, the 5 Series GT which sports an identical concept: a sleek 4-door sedan with the convenience of a full hatchback in substitute for a trunk. While we’re biased, we feel that Audi pulls off a more succinct, fluid design compared to the BMW but it will be interesting to see how the two vehicles stack up.

Hit the jump for Audi’s teaser video and more info on the A5 Sportback as well as a full press release!

However, as this is an yet-untested market, Audi likely will not bring the Sportback to the U.S. due to the cost of testing and preparing vehicles to meet U.S. road safety regulations in an uncertain marketplace. However, those in the European markets can expect to get the A5 Sportback relatively soon when it goes on sale this September for a starting price of €36,050.

Hit the jump to see Audi’s video of Wolfgang Egger, Head of Audi Design, sketching the profile of the Sportback concept.

While being the starter model in the A5 range( and despite having 4 doors compared to the 2 doors of the A5/S5 coupe and cabrio) the Sportback will receive the full gamut of Audi engines with the 2.0TFSI and TDI engines as well as the recently-discontinued-in-the-U.S. 3.2L V6 and the 3.0L V6 TDI .

We’re looking forward to the release of the A5 Sportback - a vehicle Audi calls a car “as elegant as a coupe, as practical as an Avant.”

(Source: Autoblog via Audi)

Audi’s Press Release:

Ingolstadt, 2009-06-17
The new Audi A5 Sportback
As elegant as a coupe, as practical as an Avant

The brand with the four rings leads the pack with a new vehicle concept: The Audi A5 Sportback combines the best of different automotive worlds. It is as emotional and elegant as a coupe, as comfortable as a sedan, and as practical as an Avant. The Sportback joins the Coupé and Cabriolet as the third member of the A5 model family – and at the same time creates a new segment. With an exciting design, great everyday utility and highly efficient and powerful TFSI, FSI and TDI engines, the A5 Sportback will arrive at Audi dealerships in September. The car will be open for ordering with an entry price of EUR 36,050 for the 2.0 TDI version. A version with an even more attractive price will follow in the middle of 2010. This will make the A5 Sportback the entry model for the A5 model range.

The A5 Sportback represents a milestone in car design. The five-door coupe excels in its elegant, elongated, sporty profile. The large hatchback fits perfectly into the tail-end styling. The spoiler lip and the diffuser insert provide contrast and emphasize the athletic tautness of the elongated contour. The coupe-like silhouette is the result of a roof section with a long, tapering roofline that is moderately lower by 36 mm (1.42 inches) than the A4 Sedan and of the short overhangs at the front and rear as well as the long wheelbase of 2,810 mm (9.22 feet) and the four frameless doors with their slim, dynamic window styling. The unusual hatchback design is distinctively emblematic of the vehicle’s excellent functionality. With the Sportback, the designers of the Avant are setting trends in tail-end design while combining sportiness, comfort and utility in a completely new way.

The unique functional concept in conjunction with the emotion-packed design creates a cutting-edge mix of coupe and Avant. The baggage volume of 480 liters (17.0 cubic feet) nearly equals that of the A4 Avant, and it has an impressive 980 liters (34.6 cubic feet) with the rear seatbacks folded down.

The A5 Sportback provides a full measure of comfort on all four seats and convenient entry and exit through every door. Despite the fact that its exterior height is less than that of the A4 Sedan and that its roof tapers at the rear, the Sportback has comparable headroom and legroom.

The powerplant of the A5 Sportback is another advance along the path of innovative technologies Audi has been charting: All engines are of the direct injection type – the diesel versions are sophisticated common rail TDI units while the gasoline engines are based on the FSI concept. All engines meet the EU5 exhaust emission standard. The diesel versions are equipped with particulate filters.

Initially the A5 Sportback will be available with a choice of two gasoline and three diesel engines. The two gasoline versions, the 2.0 TFSI quattro with an output of 155 kW (211 hp) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque and the 3.2-liter V6 quattro generating 195 kW (265 hp) are both equipped with the Audi valvelift system. This feature can produce more power and higher torque as well as lower fuel consumption.

The following engines are also available right from the start: the 2.0 TDI with 125 kW (170 hp), 350 Nm (258 lb-ft), a 6-speed manual gearbox and start/stop system, the 2.7 TDI with 140 kW (190 hp) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft), and the three-liter V6 TDI with 176 kW (240 hp) plus an enormous 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of maximum torque and quattro all-wheel drive.

The newly developed ESP control with electronic differential lock on the front axle ensures noticeably improved steering response as on the Coupé and Cabriolet and compensates effectively for change-of-load reactions - which increases driving safety.

The perfect addition to this technology package is the Audi drive select dynamic driving system – this allows the driver to choose between three different modes which influences the throttle response characteristics, the shift points for the seven-speed S tronic or multitronic transmissions, and supports the servotronic steering. If the vehicle is equipped with the MMI operating system, a fourth, freely programmable level is also available.

Audi drive select can only be ordered in conjunction with one or more of three additional technologies – adaptive shock absorber control, dynamic steering with continuously variable assistance and quattro with sport differential for the 3.0 TDI and 3.2 FSI versions.

Completely out of nowhere and unexpected, the first Audi A5 2.0T made its appearance on U.S soil in the beautiful, sunny State of Florida. As some of you might know, the Audi A5 is available for U.S buyers only in the V6 engine, but rumors of the 2.0T coming to the States have been going around for a while now.

The Audi A5 2.0T is powered by a 2.0 liter turbocharged engine outputting 178 horsepower for the front-wheel drive version and 208 horsepower in the Quattro model.

Audi A5 2.0T runs from 0-62 in 6.5 seconds when equipped with the six-speed manual transmission and it reaches a top speed of 153 mph. The vehicle is capable of a reported 36 mpg US in mixed driving making it both a fun and economical car to drive.
