Audi A7 reported to be on the way

The global recession has more than taken its toll on the car industry, victims such as GM and Chrysler as prime examples. European carmakers have been better shielded by the economic downturn but have, as a result, cancelled upcoming models to cut development costs or remove potentially untested models from upcoming product line-ups.

Some thought that the large fastback Audi A7 concept would be given the axe as the economy tanked. However, good news, with the A5 Sportback still on track for an official debut and release this fall, the A7 has only been postponed from being brought from concept to market. The A7, a larger model than the A5 Sportback, is expected to go on sale in late 2010, approximately a year behind schedule. As a four-door coupe/fastback, the A7 is anticipated to battle against the upcoming Aston Martin Rapide, Mercedes CLS and brand new Porsche Panamera.

WorldCarFans goes on to predict that the engine line-up will be similar to that of the A4/5 models as well as A6. It can be expected that the potent 3.0TFSI engine, along with a potential RS model in the works that could likely benefit from the RS6’s turbo’d V10. We also expect the venerable 3.0 V6 TDI to make its way to the A7 when it goes on sale in late 2010.
