What’s black, blue and fast all over? Well, the test mule Audi RS5 coupe jetting around the Nurburgring as it undergoes some of it’s final testing before its likely unveiling this fall at the Frankfurt Auto Show. As evidenced in these pictures, the RS5 is likely very close to its production specs sporting Spirit Blue paint (hidden by light black camouflage), 19-inch Audi S-line rims and the deep, deep air dams. Those air dams are working hard too - funneling as much as as possible into what’s believed to be a slightly detuned version of the RS6’s turbocharged V10.
In these pics, we can see that quattro GmbH that has left little to the enthusiast’s imagination with the beefy air dam(ala the TT RS), huge disc brakes at the front and wide-as-the-earth RS oval tailpipes as the rear. Looking at the rear diffuser, we’re still not sure if this is the final production diffuser. Also, from these same pics we can see the clear designation of “Recaro” etched into the seats - though these probably won’t be the production but I’m sure we can expect the super-grippy seats that Audi usually provides in higher performance models.

How many RS’s is Audi trying to bring out? Not only is it not as prestigous as the M, it is also not as good! I can never understand how an outdated Quattro system was suppose to make this 4X4 as pure a sports car as the likes of an M3. It’s heavy on consumption, adds terrible weight, doesn’t handle as well (and don;t come with this wet track theory). Now Audi want to compete with M3’s NA with a TT?? Where does the RS4 then fit into all this?
What’s next? RS2, RS8, RSR8, RSQ7, RSQ5, RSQ3, RSGolf, RSPolo, RSJetta.. anything more?

Well, name a brand right now that isn’t expanding it’s performance line-up? If you think that Audi is tarnishing it’s name with an RS model from quattro GmbH for much of it’s line-up then I can only say look at your own argument. BMW M Division his just released the X5 and X6 M vehicles - both of which are all-wheel-drive and forced induction engines.
All-wheel-drive and SUVs are something M Division was quoted as saying they would never touch, yet here they are: M-derived SUVs. I think you’re not giving Audi enough credit for expanding it’s line-up. There are relatively few RS models compared to BMW:
M3 - sedan,coupe,cabrio
M5 - sedan,touring
M6 - coupe,cabrio
X5 M
X6 M
Possibly an Z4 M variant
compared to Audi:
RS3 - hatchback
RS4 - sedan, wagon, cabrio
RS5
RS6 - sedan,wagon
TT RS - coupe, cabrio
That’s 9 Audi RS models to BMW’s 9 M models - two of which go against most principals BMW founded M Division on. BMW makes a good product - but saying the RS line is engaging in brand dilution compared to BMW M Division is the pot calling the kettle black.

The RS4 is still set to do battle against the M3 as the M3 has definitey moved upmarket on the E90/E92 platform.

A single of my favored elements about blogging is this community of bloggers. We aren’t cut-throat. We share successes and miseries. And when a specific thing operates, we really don’t hold it to ourselves – we want it to work for almost everyone. I adore blogging and hope that it becomes full-time a person day, but I take pleasure in the studying and growing (the journey) and am an incredibly patient man.
